Electromechanical Design Engineer(PCB & Electromechanical Systems)

JOB SUMMARY:The Electromechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and support of electronic and mechanical systems for precision laboratory instrumentation. This includes analog and digital circuit design, PCB layout, system integration, and component selection, with an emphasis on reliability, safety, and performance in scientific and industrial applications. The role also involves circuit simulation, mechanical prototyping, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Both electrical and mechanical drawing is essential. Working closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, technicians, and scientists, the Electromechanical Design Engineer will contribute to creating innovative, high-performance tools that advance research and diagnostics.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Creating and testing electrical circuits for new products or systems, ensuring they meet safety and functionality standards.
  • Designing electrical and mechanical systems for machinery, considering efficiency, cost, and safety.
  • Using computer-aided design (CAD) software to design mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Choosing mechanical and electrical components based on project specifications.  
  • Building and testing prototypes of systems or devices to evaluate performance and identify potential issues.  
  • Identifying and resolving electrical issues during development or in existing systems.  
  • Using simulation software to predict how electrical systems will perform under different conditions.
  • Working with other engineers, designers, and stakeholders to ensure a smooth workflow and alignment on project goals.
  • Maintaining clear and accurate documentation of design specifications, test results, and updates.
  • Diagnosing and fixing electrical failures or malfunctions in equipment or systems. 
  • Recommending and implementing system upgrades to improve efficiency, performance, and safety.  
  • Ensuring designs and installations comply with local, national, and international electrical codes and regulations (e.g., IEEE, NEC).
  • Designing systems with safety in mind, ensuring electrical installations minimize risks like electrical shock, fires, and equipment failure.
  • Conducting risk assessments for potential electrical hazards and addressing them proactively.
  • Researching emerging technologies in fields like robotics, automation, renewable energy, or telecommunications.
  • Working on improving existing products by developing new methods, materials, or technologies.
  • Offering post-installation support for troubleshooting or system upgrades.
  • Keeping up with the latest technological advancements, standards, and best practices in electrical engineering.
 ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Other tasks assigned as required. Maintaining necessary professional certifications (e.g., PE license) and seeking additional credentials as needed.
  • Strong ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and optimize system performance. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Coordinating project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
 REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.   
  • Three to five years of experience in a related field required. Two years of experience with AutoCAD inventor or related software preferred.
  • Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Ability to design and integrate electrical systems for complex machinery or equipment.
  • Experience with tools for circuit simulation and analysis.
  • Strong skills in diagnosing electrical issues and performing functional testing of prototypes.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, microcontrollers, and embedded systems.
  • Understanding power supplies, converters, and electrical drives.
  • Familiarity with relevant safety standards (e.g., UL, IEC, CE) and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to produce clear schematics, BOMs, assembly instructions, and design reports.
  • Analytical thinking to resolve complex electrical design challenges.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and execute design projects, often working cross-functionally.
  • Competence with CAD tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, SolidWorks Electrical) and design software.
  • Ability to develop new solutions for design optimization and product improvement.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including training and support.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently.
  • Possess cultural competency and the ability to work professionally when communicating in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Exhibits high accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Proactively suggests improvements to enhance accuracy, reliability, and maintenance efficiency.
  • Work effectively with mechanical engineers, manufacturing, testing lab and other personnel.
  • Keeping up with new technologies, components, and electrical design trends.
