MANAGER OF ENGINEERING AND DESIGN
JOB SUMMARY:Responsible for all aspects of Engineering, Design and Development for new products and developments. Including Systems Engineering, Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, and Software design.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Staff and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering team to achieve program requirements and meet technical performance objectives
  • Provide technical leadership in architecture definition and trades, requirements analysis, CONOPs, algorithms, interface definition, subsystem and component design, procurement, integration, validation and verification
  • Provide engineering leadership to all decisions impacting product integrity, system performance, and system functionality
  • Create and brief technical presentations to both internal and external customers
  • Support Business Development in various pursuits as required.
  • Communicate status, results, and recovery plans (if needed) to senior and executive management
  • Developing and maintain customer relationships
  • Partner with the Project Manager to ensure program requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to establish and report engineering metrics/TPMs and provide engineering-approved inputs for EACs and/or proposals, as needed
  • Partner with chief engineers at all levels and centers to ensure appropriate engineering staff
  • Support new business development efforts through leading and writing proposals
  • Undertake other duties as determined by the VP, New Product Development.
 QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • 10-15 years’ experience in delivering large complex US Defense programs
  • BSc Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Aerospace, Automotive)
  • MSc Engineering desired (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Computer, Management)
  • Direct Report Team of 20 or more
  • Experience in developing and delivering platforms in IRAD/Developmental Environment
  • Experience with engineering and supply chain management in a highly regulated industry
  • Applied working knowledge of Systems Engineering and design engineering with a proven track record of product development throughout the entire product lifecycle
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. Occasional travel to Europe may be required
  • Experience with bid capture, contract negotiations and delivery planning
  • Broad detailed knowledge in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering and related Standards/Processes
  • Ability to present technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Familiarity with the US DoD ground vehicle requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
  • Knowledge of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and acquisition
  • Familiarity with the US Army TACOM / TARDEC organizations
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in a variety of settings and be able to assimilate complex instructions easily. Ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff to establish productive relationships. Superior consultation, diplomacy, influencing and negotiating skills is required. Must possess the ability to explain complex concepts in a way that makes sense to someone less knowledgeable about the topic.
  • Must demonstrate an enthusiasm to engage with and support overseas colleagues to ensure all staff have the information and opportunity to perform to the best of their abilities.
  • Support and encourage performance by motivating individuals and teams to achieve high performance. Clarify and define the goals and strategies of the organization and successfully communicate this to all. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to work effectively with the US team, suppliers, customer, and corporate parent staff.
  • High level of self-motivation and standards with the ability to multi-task; balancing "analysis" with "doing". Must be adaptable and able to prioritize and work under pressure to meet deadlines. Work on own initiative.
