PROTOTYPE BUILD MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY:Our client is looking for a Prototype Build Manager to work at their facility located in Slidell, LA. The Prototype Build Manager will lead the onsite team execution of the prototype vehicles from planning/readiness events through delivery to the Test community. Within this team, strong problem-solving skills are needed as you’ll be executing and coordinating system level troubleshooting, diagnostics, and software updates. Additional responsibilities include the coordination of material, quality, engineering, and support functions throughout builds daily. You must be detail oriented and have strong communication skills, as you’ll be working with different engineering teams & suppliers in a fast-paced environment in the pursuit of progress.  
If you have at least 12 years of experience in fabrication work experience within the automotive industry, and have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Operations Computer Science or a related field, we are interested in reviewing your qualifications! 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Manage execution of Sub System and Vehicle Assembly onsite
  • Coordinate activities with other onsite Managers for execution
  • Support safety initiatives and flow down requirements
  • Provide first line of defense with hands-on troubleshooting of system level issues that arise during prototype builds.
  • Coordinating with Manufacturing Operations, engineering, vehicle program teams, site facility teams and suppliers in keeping constant and consistent communication to provide support for prototype builds.
  • Contact design release engineers to provide issue resolution support.
  • Create and Maintain an Open Points List of issues identified on prototype vehicles build.
  • Provide regular updates to management of status of builds.
  • Diagnostic fault analysis and execute service procedures.
  • Manage complex build projects and a small team of fabricators to ensure work is done efficiently.
  • Lead project teams when needed or work independently with the initiative to solve problems quickly.
  • Bring an understanding of process and timing to support department project management.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to devise solutions to new problems.
  • Support timeline planning and detail work for all show properties.
  • Integrated with design engineers to create better parts and improve designs for prototype techniques.
  • Create physical models with little background with a willingness to fail fast and iterate often.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to others in the prototype shop.
  • Work with Shop Senior Manager to determine build schedule, and integrate with leadership.
  • Build and Maintain work instructions for prototype vehicle assembly and retrofit projects.
  • Build and assemble Prototype vehicles to exact specifications.
  • Ability to fabricate complex parts with a variety of different materials (steel, aluminum, composites, wood, etc).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Operations, or Computer Science
  • 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
  • 12+ years of fabrication work experience in the automotive industry.
  • Ability to travel to various engineering locations to support build, retrofit, and engineering events.
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting issues in an ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to identify root cause, contain, and permanently correct engineering issues.
  • Strong communication skills in-person, on the phone, and by email.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiar with Calibration tools like INCA and Canalyzer.
  • Familiar with performing software updates with service tools like Cummins InSIte, SDS, or other service tools.
  • Familiar with CAN based datalinks and communication protocols.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of service portal and ordering replacement parts.
  • Valid driver license with clean record.
  • Leadership and first principle problem solving mindset.
  • Eagerness to make progress.
  • Knowledge of shop tools and software.
  • Strong automotive mechanical understanding.
  • Strong technical and mechanical ability.
  • Strong welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Strong material planning and execution skills.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, & inter-personal skills.
  • Computer skills a plus (MS Office, Outlook, etc).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Operations, or Computer Science
  • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
  • Diesel experience is highly preferred.
